Listen live: follow speech around you
Choose Nearby speech → Listen live when one person is speaking and you want to understand. Select a translation language, allow microphone access and start listening. iDub detects the spoken language, provides translated audio and displays live captions.
Use it to follow a lecture, a guided tour or a talk. You can listen through headphones or read the captions when you prefer text. Microphone placement and clear source speech help the app capture what is being said.
Conversation: take turns in two languages
Choose Conversation for a two-way exchange. Select a language for each person. The face-to-face layout gives each person a separate half of the screen with their own microphone control.
Tap your microphone, speak, then stop recording to hear the translation. Let the other person take the next turn. On iOS, Conversation is an iDub Plus feature; see the Free and Plus terms for details.
Start a nearby speech session
- Add your personal Gemini API key in settings.
- Choose Listen live or Conversation and set the language or language pair.
- Allow microphone access and start the session. Stop listening or finish the conversation when you are done.
New translations require an internet connection and available Gemini access. Get permission before capturing another person’s speech. For microphone, playback or key problems, use the troubleshooting guide.
