A clear connection

Your key.
Your control.

iDub uses Google Gemini to translate speech and text. Add your own API key — a personal access code from Google — once in the app’s settings. You manage the key and its usage in your Google account.

How your data is handled
On your device

Your API key is saved locally, ready for your next session.

Processed by Google Gemini

The audio or text you choose to translate is sent to Google, which returns the translation.

An internet connection is required. Google’s usage limits and any API charges apply to your key. For adults 18+. Check service requirements.

Your first translation

How to start
translating with iDub.

Connect your key, choose a language and make it your own.

01

Add your Gemini key

Get your personal access key in Google AI Studio, then paste it into iDub’s settings. You only need to do this once.

02

Make it your language

Pick one of 78 languages. Choose Video & audio, Nearby speech, or Books and text to match what you want to translate.

03

Start understanding

Play audio, take turns in a conversation, or open a book. Allow the access your mode needs, then listen or read along.

You’ll need an internet connection and a valid Gemini API key. Always get permission before translating someone else’s speech or content.

Good to know

Before you
get started.

Which languages can I translate into?

iDub offers 78 language options, including English, Ukrainian, Spanish, French, Arabic, Japanese and Korean. See the full language list.

Do I need my own Gemini API key?

Yes. Think of it as your personal access code to Google’s translation service. Create a key in Google AI Studio and add it in iDub. Google sets the available usage, limits and any API charges for your account.

Does iDub work offline?

Creating new translations requires an internet connection to Google Gemini. Books and text saves prepared audio and text on your device so you can return to the parts already available.

Can iDub translate audio from other apps?

Use Video & audio → From apps to translate YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or Spotify audio when capture is allowed. Netflix and other protected services may block capture. Compatibility depends on your device, the app and the content.

What is the difference between Listen live and Conversation?

Listen live translates speech around you into one language. Conversation is for a two-way exchange: choose a language for each person and take turns using the face-to-face screen.

Can I translate a saved video or audio file?

Yes. Choose Video & audio → Audio/video file and select a file from your device. Use the built-in player to follow the original and translated captions. Supported formats depend on your device’s media decoder.

Which books and documents can I open?

Books and text supports PDF, EPUB, DOCX, TXT, FB2 and RTF, plus pasted text. PDFs need a selectable text layer; scanned pages and DRM-protected books are not supported. Your library keeps your reading position and the translation already prepared.

Can I use captions instead of listening?

Yes. Read the translated text in iDub, or show both the original and the translation. You can turn translated audio off when you prefer to read. For From apps captions, return to iDub while the source keeps playing.
