Translate audio from supported apps
Choose Video & audio → From apps to translate audio playing on your phone. Approve the system capture request, start playback in the source app and select the language you want to hear. You can listen to translated speech or read captions in iDub.
This mode can help with a YouTube video, a podcast episode or an online lesson when the source permits capture. Source apps and protected content may block recording; iDub does not bypass those restrictions. For captions, return to iDub while the source audio continues playing.
Translate videos and podcasts from popular platforms
Translate YouTube videos and Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok videos, Facebook videos, Twitch streams and Vimeo videos when your device and the source allow audio capture.
Translate Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube Music podcasts, or follow TED, Coursera and Udemy lessons when audio capture is available.
Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV translation depends on playback and content protection. Protected films and series may block audio capture; iDub does not bypass DRM.
Translate a saved audio or video file
Choose Audio/video file and select a recording from your device. Use the built-in player to play, pause, seek and adjust playback speed. Follow original and translated captions as you listen.
Supported containers and codecs depend on your device’s media decoder. This mode plays the selected media with translation; it does not create an exported dubbed video or downloadable translated audio file.
Set up audio translation
- Connect your own Gemini API key in iDub’s settings.
- Select one of the 78 translation languages.
- Choose From apps or Audio/video file, approve the access requested for that source, and start playback.
New translations require an internet connection and available Gemini access. Google’s usage limits and API charges apply to your key. See setup help and the service requirements.
